Description

My mentor :iconjeremymjack: approved my self-challenge of creating a place, rather than a human/humanoid character.

Maybe it's not a huge success, but I am glad I tried it at least.

Why don't you tell me what you think is this place's history?

hugs!

"The Citadel was ancient. When it had been a bastion for continental travelers and pilgrims, ages had already passed when its creators, or so it is said, the Silver Wizards of Gonthill came to Arluv because of its lush life, its deep blue sea and general isolation for the rest of the world.

Carved out of the titanic cliffs which now draw the borders between the Arluvian highlands; the elevated valleys and gorges that swivel beside and behind the Citadel, and the vast Meronulari planes and swamps below; Gonburulath witnessed ages in which the cliffs had been bathed by the sea of Ryuakaler ( now known as the Meronulari planes) - once one of the largest masses of water in the world; ages when the legendary dragons of the North agreed to make their councils with both humans and elves. Gonburulath witnessed and survived many a dynasty in which the Brotherhood of the Three ruled in peace. But the elves receded into the woods and mountains that they vowed to protect, and the dragons before them, turned in for what the humans would come to call the millennial hibernation. Generations passed as the glory and wisdom of the Brotherhood faded into nearly forgotten tradition and legend.

Outstandingly, the order of Gonthill, though diminished and changed, , had not vanished and was the body of historian, priests and custodians of the Citadel, keeping it alive, along with one of the most treasured libraries in the southeast.
Many have wondered why its role as realm's capital only last half a generation, but like the lingering priests often stated, ' The world is full of change, and we are like the seabed which will one day be a mountain; not the spirit behind the wind, nor the power behind the never-ending waters. Rather, we are like a womb and a haven for the people to take refuge in and for the Gods to meet with those who reach out to them.'

A belief born both out of timeless wisdom, and the radical changes the citadel had seen occur around itself, grounded it as both magnificent and inspiring as well as unpretentious - despite its majestic pinnacles. Those pinnacles date back to when dragons lived there; and each pinnacle had, at least, three different sized terraces where larger and smaller wings could land safely and comfortably. A few of these have been0 destroyed and now only a limited number living today, know the truth behind their destruction, though many speculate whether there had once been a terrible battle amongst dragons which may have lead to their final disappearance, or an even worse fate, which no one could even try to name.

The Citadel stands still and its hosts, the Silver Wizards of Gonthill offer refuge and guidance to those who seek it.
Here lay buried many of the secrets of ages lost, as well as of ages to come."
